Exciting exposition? Hell no. Mary Sue alert? Possibly.

Also, we have some guests you may recognize in the audience...

Edit:

Professor Troughton from Alvery Nerveaux's Secret Case Files

"Dr." Fodd from Indifferently Evil

Oooohhhhh.... I LIKE that challenge!

Of course, I am already sure their "awesome new weapon" is going to make me grind my teeth. I'm just waiting to see the damage...

There are two notable lies in Lt Col's words. One is one blatant and petty and totally the reason for having this conference on a working military installation vice Disney Land. The other is subtle, broad in scope, and terribly malicious.

Per your response you've already fallen for the big one. But don't be too hard on yourself, Einstein fell for it too.

I noticed two lies, not sure if they're what you're pointing out:
1) She claims not to be there to brag about her weapon... and immediately after declares that it is awesome.
2) She claims that her weapon is the future of war, without any evidence given either for or against that proposition.

You're right, she's not talking about $s. When she says "unexpected costs" she means things like local national radicalization, radiation poisoning, and rogue AIs... essential the negative externalities (or "pollution") of engaging in war.

The only recent war we got that right on was WW@ but then you have the whole cold war thing. So maybe never.

Thanks! Lt Col Brigham *is* the boss--she's the commanding officer of the 33rd Test and Evaluation Squadron. She's also the deputy Air Force liaison to the Strategic Studies Office.

Details in upcoming pages...

Did some monologue get cut or just delivered off-screen here? Janet immediately launches from fluffing the egos of the powerpoint-victims to saying she's not going to brag about a weapon we haven't heard about yet. If that was a crude propaganda trick to make the audience more curious about the weapon, I'd rate that less than one deci-Goebbels for skill at mindfucking.

If I had the access to such a project I would maybe sabotage it somehow or at least leak it. Possible.
More possible once you get more of the researchers on your side.
Highly unlikely? Sure.
Possible? Yes.

I think most sabotages were pure luck and the attacked side being blinded by power.
Once they realize it is too late, well, it is too late.

"Mary Sue"
I am highly allergic to this term and its male counterpart (which even sounds more stupid) and like to imaginary throw people out of the window when they moan how bad it is ;)

Snowden is a traitor and a fool. Exile or prison are his only legitimate options for the rest of his life.

Traitor to whom or what though?
If you see it as an action then maybe.
If you see it an a principle then maybe not.

When the other side is already as much of a traitor then who is betraying whom?

I really hope that she does brag about this super weapon.

The conference sounds legit enough.
I'd even like to sit in and see what they come up with.

I'm thinking that she'll use the knowledge gained here to make the weapon WORSE?
:-o

As an Australian, he wouldn't be brought into any sidebar classified briefings during the conference, so that might be a little disappointing.

As an Australian, he would be brought into a number of bars on both sides of Beale Street after the conference, so that might be a little intoxicating.
