You know the answer to this, of course...

For the first time, I am actually worried about Chuck. Just remember, if you are going to kill off a beloved character (and yes, Chucky boy grows on you), you must have proper documentation (CF-187A, revision April 2015)...

(Consider me hooked more now than ever - you're bringing the awesome and the pain at the same time. I love the chess metaphor and that panel of Chuck is one of the best things you have EVER turned in. Bravo on rising to the occasion for Ultraviolence... :P )

I'm really curious what Maerc is trying to achieve with this sacrifice. Surely there's more to it than trying to make Augustus Alexander and Aegis Securitech underestimate him and waste resources hiding and denying what they're in the act of doing to two of Maerc's more unreliable thugs. Any serious gang of thugs has significant resources for doing unto others and getting away with it, I don't imagine Chuck and Ivan cost Augustus much at all in his home town.
Honestly, nobody deserves to be beat to death. However, if anybody did it would be two assholes like Chuck and Ivan who've cheerfully spent paycheques for racking up disgusting counts in death, destruction and other crimes against life, livelihood and public order. Everybody has their good moments, and good deeds, and theirs do not excuse their lives I'd say. Death by thuggery is certainly a poetically just end for those who lived by it, if nothing else.

Here's a phrase: "poetically just end"

Of which not one single word is applicable!

"Poetic justice is a literary device in which ultimately virtue is rewarded and vice punished. In modern literature it is often accompanied by an ironic twist of fate related to the character's own action."
Damnit, you're only beating these two into the hospital, instead of the mortuary? Way to murder-tease.

Your deviousness holds no bounds!

I think that the sacrifices are Chuck and Ivan being beaten into a coma, and the "mate" is the elimination of Aegis' most trusted and effective operatives. I mean, really; SOMEBODY has to have C&I's backs. With Sonja being in the middle of a phone call while all this is happening, it leads me to believe that MSV has something VERY nasty hidden in the wings...

You know what's a great movie for all the wrong reasons? American Sniper (the "hero" is dead, and the entire premise of the film is a lie perpetuated by a "bitter, old, white man" trying to re-write history to the tune of the GOP)...
