Been a less-than-pleasant weekend and the thought crossed my mind that I should end this work today, with this page.

However, it grinds on.

Chuck's feeling good with the head shots.
Now what's Tona going to do? Run shoot or play dead?

1. I am very sorry to hear that your weekend was double-plus unpleasant. I hope things start looking up, man.

2. Nice nod to one of our compatriots. :)

3. It's Not Unusual is a BRILLIANT backing piece. This whole scene is playing out like a gorram film.

4. LOVE this framing!

5. Are you seriously setting up Tona vs. Chuck here? D:

6. I need the next page right fraggin' NOW. Ending it here would be a Sopranos level of dick move. And possibly just as valid.

7. Seriously, lirv. I hope things get better for you.

@RD: When's yours?!?!

Despite my edits to my profile page, expect the next page on Wednesday night at the usual time.

I sent Tona to hell via a prison cell. Now to send her to heaven...

That would be a hilarious cliffhanger for your next work, but I think that a significant chunk of your audience would cry foul if Chuck dies off-screen or in a summary montage.

Anyway, I'll be trolling you later.

Why cross that out? Trolling people through comics that steadily improve in quality of art, writing and execution is trolling I could support.

Tom, I suppose I can say this out loud: this page is for you.

MSV might be destroyed, but the monsters it unleashed will be around for a long, long time.

Hmm.

Alexander's plan: get the upper hand on MSV and put them down.

Maerc's plan: stand back and watch Eric MacDonald mess up Alexander's plan.

Eric MacDonald's plan: control the elevators, send "Grigori's boys" to "help" Sonja. By killing Maerc I should think.

But only one of Grigori's boys made it. (He should have done the elevator hack earlier.)

But that one is Chuck!

Does MacDonald know who Chuck is? He called him the "boogeyman" but maybe he he would have said the same for anyone who shot his way clear of the Aegis guys.

I wonder if there is any more to MacDonald's plan. We saw him take out the helicopter, but Maerc was ready for that one (and a good thing too for Sonja's health).

One thing Tona has going for her: she's not pointing a gun at Chuck. Tona, did you hear what I just said?

Chuck will recognize Tona instantly, if he isn't in some sort of berserker rage. But what are the odds of that? I'm sure the elevator music was very soothing.

Well, it would answer the question of how Eric has been getting inside info on MSV if it comes direct from Maerc himself but why stage a bloodbath for your own troops at all if you plan to keep them? I think your assessment of what Maerc's plan is here is at least a little bit off. If you go back in the archives you may also see support for the notion Maerc himself downed his helicopter, possibly in a bid to fake his own death.

Also, I suspect Tona will be the one to put Chuck down. Notice how she's reaching for that sidearm in the last panel?

....Which is a pretty sweet rendition of firearms violence carried out with absurd speed and accuracy. I should really give the artist more praise where it's due.

My theory, which I laid out in a comment on comic 125, is that Maerc was planning for MSV to be destroyed as an organization, and for Aegis to be destroyed at the same time; that Maerc would allow Alexander to believe that Aegis would have the upper hand, but Maerc expected MacDonald to "stir into the mix" as I put it. So no, I don't think Maerc is planning to keep MSV at all; and yes, I agree that Maerc almost certainly was giving inside info to Aegis.

Also, you are mistaken about what happened to the helicopter. Maerc had a helicopter brought, but then had it fly away again without getting on board, and someone (we all think it was Eric MacDonald) hacked an MSV drone to blow up the helicopter. (See comic 121, a mobile device accessing "MSVintranet" and disabling safety protocols on something, and a small winged thing flies into the helicopter. Maerc coolly says "I've always suspected MacDonald's ability to exploit vulnerabilities in MSV's command and control architecture." He also says "Good thing I had Alexander procure a backup chopper.")

I believe that Tona wants the ability to defend herself against a berserk killing machine in a suit and sunglasses. So she's going for the pistol. She has a history with Chuck and might have tried talking with him if she recognized him, but my guess is she will go "best defense is a good offense" before she recognizes him. It seems likely that she will shoot him, and he will (try to) shoot her. (A dead Aegis guy in body armor is awkward cover but likely will suffice to keep her alive.)

Speculation: since Chuck is already signed up for the mystery R&D program, he might get the Robocop treatment if he is shot but doesn't quite die. I am now picturing Chuck with cyborg arms and legs still going to strip clubs, but perhaps not remembering why he is doing it.

@AC: Thanks, to generate this page I spent hours in the kitchen hitting tomatoes with a meat tenderizer.

But in all seriousness I'm probably gonna leave you guys with all sorts of uneasy questions such as who's been feeding Eric info.

Chuck is channeling the wrath of the righteous.

Tona's still on her crusade.

(I'd say there's a zero percent chance that she doesn't pick up a gun.)

And you wonder why religious wars are so bloody.

I have a question, sir?

Will there be any volume of Let It Ride that doesn't end with or due to at least one shooting?

Volume 1: Sonja shoots Tona and Trinity, which precipitates Eric and Sona buggering off to Jamaica.

Volume 2: Tona takes down a bunch of goombas in Atlantic City.

Volume 3: "Tonya Zehm" opens fire on the courtyard steps (something something). Darrell Lakedaemon and his assistant die.

Volume 4: This.

And that is where I have to work on my writing skills.

I'm gonna say that Volume One was "Springtime in Wisconsin" and the next three are the "Height of Summer". They all involve Tona; the tragedy of violent death follows her like a shadow.

Whatever the hell comes next will be part of a macro grouping called "Light in August" and as previously discussed in PM I think I will be branching out characters-wise and Tona will not be featured as heavily. (At least that's the plan.)

Also: America needs some gorram gun control reforms.

Okay looks like a few things may happen but the way elevators are headed, it's all going to the top floor. Fitting place for a climax, things fall harder from the higher they are.

Eric is more of a maestro sort than I really thought, with how much he's willing to sit back and pull strings.

I love the paneling and how Tona is on the ball, I really hope this doesn't turn into a duel tho. My favorite characters fighting ahhhhhhhhhh.

Rad work, as usual. You've kept the tension wires tight despite this being a 'long' climax.

You did say it would end in a whimper and not with a bang though. Drat. HMM...

Still think the final hurrah will be on the roof or near it.
